Who We Are

The Choir currently has 17 trebles. The age range is 7 to 14. The number of adult professional singers varies depending on the nature of the programme.

Staff consists of John Dexter (Director), Gavin Moloney (Assistant Director), Róisín Judge (Theory), and Aisling and Patrick Dexter (Administration).

Special Thanks are due to Dundrum Methodist Church (rehearsal venue), Ciaran Judge (website) and to the many parents and friends who support the activities of the choir.

Ethos

Whilst Dublin can boast of its music colleges, its multiple university degree courses, its opera companies, its rise to international stardom in the field of traditional music, its own music-and-arts radio channel, its orchestras and choirs, its concert halls and recording studios, its subsidy of the arts and its costly educational programmes, what is it doing for its most precious musical instrument – the instrument for which some of the world’s greatest music has been composed –
- the boy treble voice?

John Dexter Harmony has now filled that gap with an exciting curriculum for young boy trebles performing regularly with their own professional group of adult close-harmony singers.

John Dexter Harmony uses Ireland’s top professional ensemble singers for its contralto, tenor and bass parts. The sound, especially when it divides into five or six part harmony, is both rich and ethereal.

"There is nothing to beat the sound of boy trebles. They still provide the soprano line in the world’s finest choirs – King’s College Cambridge, Westminster Cathedral, Vienna Boys, Regensburg Cathedral, to name just a few that top the CD charts in classical music. They have been traditionally associated with church music, but when they branch into folksong arrangements, barbershop, contemporary Irish or pop close harmony the results melt the heart."  -- John Dexter
